Installation on Mac

asked by Paul Butler (2017/03/27 02:55)

Hello, I have downloaded Quanty for Mac from this website. I cannot figure out how to run it, though. The zip I got from the download just contains an exec command. I get something like this:

One of the things that bothers me here is that the program does not appear to recognize an available processor. Additionally, seeing as I have nothing other than an exec command, I cannot see how this is intended to run. Am I doing something wrong or missing any steps? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!

Dear Paul,

Thanks for asking. Indeed the zip file just contains one binary. If you double click this the binary will be opened in a terminal where it runs, without an input file and stops after writing some information on your computer system. The statement that there are 0 processors is fine and indicates that you run in a serial and not parallel mode. At the moment only the linux version supports parallel calculations.

In order to run Quanty you need to copy the program into a folder (directory) that is part of the search path of your computer. You then need to open a terminal and execute the program by typing Quanty and hit the enter button. Descriptions for Windows and Mac are available in a bit more detail, for Linux we assume you know how to do this, if not look at the Mac descriptions as Mac runs on Linux.

I've created a Getting Started page with some detail on how to create scripts that can be run with Quanty. Hope this is sufficient.
